Fuel price questions
Why do petrol prices differ so much between cities?
The base price and central excise duty are uniform, but state VAT and local levies are not. Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh apply some of the highest state taxes, while Delhi, Chandigarh and Gujarat are among the lowest. Dealer commission and transport distance from the refinery add smaller variations.
How often do fuel prices change in India?
Oil marketing companies are free to revise prices daily at 6 a.m. under the dynamic pricing regime introduced in 2017, though in practice long stretches pass without movement.
Is CNG always cheaper than petrol?
Per kilometre, almost always. CNG costs roughly 20-25% less per unit than petrol and a CNG car covers more distance per unit, so the cost per kilometre is typically 40-50% lower. The catch is the ₹90,000-1,00,000 purchase premium, which needs around 30,000 km to pay back.
How much does it cost to charge an electric car at home?
At a domestic slab rate of ₹7-9 per kWh, a 30 kWh pack costs ₹210-270 for a full charge and covers roughly 200-250 km — about ₹1.00-1.30 per kilometre. Public DC fast charging at ₹18-24 per kWh roughly triples that.
