Privacy Policy

MyCarMileage ("we", "us") operates mycarmileage.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than boilerplate.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Mileage reports. When you use the Submit Your Mileage form we store the car model, variant, fuel type, mileage figure, city, driving style, an optional display name and an optional comment.
  • Contact messages. If you email us or use the contact form we store your name, email address and message so we can reply.
  • Newsletter subscriptions. If you subscribe we store your email address and the date you subscribed.

We never ask for your phone number, address, vehicle registration number, or any government identifier. Please do not include such details in free-text comments.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. Pages viewed, referring page, approximate region, device type and browser, collected through Google Analytics 4.
  • Server logs. IP address, timestamp and requested URL, retained for a short period for security and abuse prevention.
  • Local storage. Entries you save in the Mileage Calculator logbook are stored in your own browser and are never transmitted to us.

2. Why we process your data

  • To publish aggregated real-world mileage figures (your individual report, without identifying detail, becomes part of a model average)
  • To respond to your enquiries and correction reports
  • To send the newsletter you asked for
  • To measure which pages are useful and improve them
  • To serve advertising that funds the site
  • To detect and prevent spam, scraping and abuse

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We use:

  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic patterns.
  • Advertising cookies set by Google AdSense and its partners to serve and measure ads.
  • Local storage for your calculator logbook. This is not a cookie and is not sent to any server.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The calculators, car data and articles all work with cookies disabled.

4. Google AdSense

Third-party vendors including Google use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. Where required, we present a consent notice before advertising cookies are set.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service providers who host the site, deliver email and provide analytics and advertising, bound by their own agreements
  • Law enforcement where we are legally required to do so

Aggregated mileage statistics — for example "owners of this model report an average of 16.2 km/l" — contain no personal information and may be published freely.

6. Data retention

  • Mileage reports: retained indefinitely as part of the public dataset, or until you ask us to remove yours
  • Contact messages: up to 24 months
  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe
  • Server logs: up to 90 days

7. Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and equivalent laws elsewhere, you may request access to the personal data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of your data, or withdrawal of consent for processing. Contact us at hello@mycarmileage.com or through the contact form. We respond within 30 days.

8. Children

This site is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and submitted data is stored on access-controlled infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive information you would not want disclosed.

10. International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens, we rely on the provider's standard contractual protections.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update the effective date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for at least 14 days.
